As regard to this aspect of web designs, the size of the image to be used should be small, about 10-12KB. What usually affects the loading speed of various web pages is because they make use of large images. For site visitors, sluggish performance of a site is frustrating.

Also, graphics that are to be used should complement the content of your website. When we say graphics, this includes images and photos that make up the design. However, you don’t have to include a certain image just because you are fascinated with it. Always make sure that the graphics you will use make sense. It should provide your visitors the right impression.

Blinking images should also be avoided. These are annoying to lots of users. If you will make use of flashing graphics, make sure that it won’t keep on distracting the users. One flash execution of the graphics should be enough. Don’t make use of graphics that flash until the end.

Layout

When it comes to this part of design, standard layouts are what most people prefer. This is because they are made simpler. There are layouts that you need to scroll the page to the right in order to see information at the right. These are annoying layouts that should be avoided. One of the most acceptable layouts on web sites is the 3-coloum style of layout.

In your layout, also make sure that whitespaces are provided appropriately. Don’t try remove or cover them with graphics or fillers. Whitespaces are also important. It makes your design and layout neat and not over crowded.

Fonts

Use simple or standard fonts. These are more user-friendly. Also limit the number of font types to be used on your design. Two to three font styles are enough. You may think that the use of many font styles make the site prettier. However, this will only show how amateur you are when it comes to web designs. On the other hand, your website would look more professional if you will use less than three styles of fonts.

Among the standard fonts that are widely used include Arial, Helvetica, Tahoma, and Verdana. These are simple fonts and easy to read. They are also browser-friendly. Remember, simplicity is beauty. The standard size of fonts is 12 points. However, I prefer 10 or 11 points. But avoid using 8 points or smaller than that. The content of the site should be legible.

Don’t allow your site to be overwhelmed by ads. The purpose of the many visitors why they stick around on your site is because they want to obtain relevant information beneficial for them and not because of the ads. Don’t drive away your prospective clients because of too many ads.
